A Change at the Helm

YCWA welcomes Chris DiCarlo as new CEO

Chris DiCarloYouth Crime Watch of America welcomes its new Chief Executive Officer, Christopher DiCarlo, who came on board April 1st, 2008.

Mr. DiCarlo has held senior management positions in both the private and nonprofit sectors. As a Vice President at Sanwa Bank, DiCarlo oversaw a $2 billion loan portfolio consisting primarily of Fortune 500 clients. His nonprofit experience includes lead roles in operations, resource development and executive management. A graduate of the United Way of America management training program, he has served at four local United Ways, including most recently as a President & CEO in South Carolina. He has significant international experience, including extended stays in Europe, Asia and South America. On April 1, 2008, DiCarlo became Chief Executive Officer of Youth Crime Watch of America and also holds that position for Youth Crime Watch of Florida. Chris holds a Bachelors Degree in History from Dartmouth College and has MBA and MPP degrees from the University of Chicago.

Participants of our 19th National Youth Crime Prevention Conference and International Forum had the opportunity to extend a warm welcome to DiCarlo at the event, March 26-29, 2008, in Miami, Florida.

We look forward to sailing under his direction and can't wait to see where he takes us. Welcome aboard!

... and bids farewell to Executive Director Terry Modglin

March 31, 2008 was Terry Modglin's final day at the helm of Youth Crime Watch of America. In the decade that he has headed the organization, he has become a familiar sight to Crime Watchers across the U.S. and around the globe.

terry modglinA tireless advocate for youth, Terry Modglin has worked in the field for thirty years and been a manager of youth crime prevention activities at the national level for most of that time. He served as the National Crime Prevention Council's first Director of Youth programs, a position he held for fifteen years, as well as its first Municipal Director for five years. Modglin co-founded the Teens, Crime, and the Community "education and action" program, the National Youth Crime Prevention Conference, and Washington, DC's Students Mobilized Against Drugs Program. He is the author of numerous books and publications on youth and crime prevention, and has presented across the U.S. His contacts with crime prevention leaders across the country are extensive. Modglin served as Executive Director of Youth Crime Watch of America and Youth Crime Watch of Florida from 1998 to 2008. A Vietnam veteran, he has been instrumental in efforts to erect a memorial on U.S. soil to veterans of his unit, the 173d Airborne Brigade. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the American University.

Terry, we thank you for all that you have given of yourself for the youth of this world and wish you the very best in your future endeavors. You shall be missed.
