Regional Youth Summits

In 2010, a series of Regional Youth Summits will replace YCW's National Youth Crime Prevention Conference, taking the 20-year tradition of our National Conferences to a local level. "Turning Ideas into Action"

The summit focuses on three main areas of concern: Drug and alcohol use, bullying, and internet safety. The final workshop session is designed for your group to plan and organize an action project for the 2010-2011 school year. At the summit: Periwinkle Theatre for Youth will give a special performance of Halfway There, a drama based on true stories of young people fighting addiction.

Providence, Rhode Island

RI summitRegional Youth Summit (RI): "YCW New England Third Eye Conference"

The YCW New England Third Eye Conference will be held March 25-26, 2010 at the University of Rhode Island Providence Campus, located at 80 Washington Street in downtown Providence. Sponsored by the University of Rhode Island, the RI Attorney General's Office, and CABINS of Lincoln, RI. Anticipated turnout: 400–600 people. All workshops will be presented by YCW members and adult advisors. Entertainment will include an Irish step dance team, a martial arts exhibition, music from DJ Crazy Phil, and skits, plays and performances by various schools. On Thursday afternoon all participants will be involved in a service project to create solar lanterns from old plastic soda bottles that can be distributed to the homeless and people in need in Rhode Island as well as sent for use by the people now living in the disaster stricken areas in Haiti. At the end of the second day, we will have an awards ceremony accompanied by a dance to celebrate all that the Third Eye students have accomplished over the year.

Kentucky

The Kentucky Regional Summit is coordinated by Youth Crime Watch of Kentucky. This two-day symposium features keynote speaker Dr. Steve Sroka with his "Teaching to a T" presentation. Symposium topics will include cyberbullying and "sexting," the choking game, dating violence, and prescription drug abuse. Registration for Kentucky schools is supplemented by a state grant. Out-of-state participants are welcome to contact the Kentucky office for more information on getting to the symposium: 859-727-2678.
