News from Brazil in 2007
December 2007 - Thanks to a beloved advisor, Corporal Luzia Tereza da Silva:
One of the driving forces of the Youth Crime Watch movement around the world (including Jovens Construindo a Cidadania in Brazil) is the bond between students and their adult partners in the program. A site advisor bears responsibility for the program from year to year as students change. They also bring important life experience and healthy perspectives to the group. In the best cases our advisors become beloved role models to the youth in the group. Such is the case in the city of Panorama, Brazil, where students enjoy the active particpation of Corporal Luzia Tereza da Silva. When Corporal Luzia had a serious car accident a few months ago, youth from her JCC group boarded busses to the capital in Sao Paulo just to visit her and cheer her up. Corporal Luzia's accident has forced her to retire from service as a police officer, but it has not removed her from the hearts of the many young people she has helped. Our commendations and heartfelt thanks go out to her.
