News from Guinea
October 18, 2007: Spreading awareness among students
JCC Guinea conducted an awareness session at a local school in the Arabic community. The event was JCCG's first opportunity to work with the imams (teachers) in spreading their common message of peace and non-violence. Additional school programs for the broader community are planned for after the holidays. Photos from the event below.

May 2007: An important document...
Guinea's Youth Crime Watch program (JCC) has succeeded in obtaining legal certification from the mayor to operate in the city of Conakry. This difficult to obtain document will help them cement partnerships with important institutions operating in the area. We congratulate them on this important step and look forward to hearing more about their accomplishments.
The certification is good for two years, after which the group's performance will be evaluated for permanent certification.
March 2007: YCW Guinea to launch soon

March 3, 2007: The founding team meets in Guinea.
The founding members of YCW Guinea have begun preparations for the launch of the Youth Crime Watch program in the Republic of Guinea. The core group of planners have met to discuss next steps (see photo, above). Meetings are planned with future coalition partners and work is underway on gaining official recognition as a youth-serving movement. Youth members can look forward to receiving membership cards.
Dr. Samah Zimare, founder of YCW Guinea is optimistic about the program catching on. "More and more young people are getting in, cause they seem to find themselves through this program and are decided to bring their best to make it a success," he says. Zimare further identifies one of the priorities of YCWG as a focus "to reduce as much as possible criminality and youth delinquency in our community." The group leadership has a meeting scheduled in the near future with the Ministry of Secondary Education towards signature of a memorandum of understanding.
