November 2006: Youth Crime Watch of Liberia former executive wins top government appointment
The former Executive Director and one of the founders of Youth
Crime Watch of Liberia, Mr. Ernest M. Vafee has been appointed
by the Vice President of Liberia as Senior Research Analyst in
the Office of the Vice President.
Prior to the appointment, Mr. Vafee served as Executive Director of the YCWL. Mr. Vafee worked with the youth group from its inception as a youth organization until now. His role as a motivator and facilitator for youth programs and activities has earned him a top level job in the country. He continues to serve on the board of Youth Crime Watch of Liberia as a way of keeping the vision of creating a crime-free society for post-war Liberia alive.
In his appointment letter to Mr. Vafee, the Vice President praised the young activist for his farsightedness and visionary stance in shifting the minds of young people from crime to positive activities that will impact their lives positively. "Your proactive and intellectual pedigree inspires not only your peers but those of us charged with the process of nation building. I, therefore, wish that you join us in the task of nation building where your youthful expertise and creative energy could be put to use." The Vice President concluded by thanking the entire membership of the YCWL for producing such a young man to serve his country.
In his new post, Mr. Vafee will assist in shaping the Vice President's speeches and will provide national policy analysis for the Vice President as well as serve as a youth focal point for the Vice President's Office.
Mr. Vafee holds a bachelors degree in economics and demography from the University of Liberia in 2001. He has worked with YMCA of Liberia as national coordinator for the post conflict department charged with responsibility of developing youth programs that will detraumatise former combatants. As a student, he became student representative of the University of Liberia and is presently the Deputy Speaker of the Mano River Union (Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone) Youth Parliament.
Congratulations! We wish you success in the years ahead.
