Nigeria: 2004 News (Oyo State Chapter)

DECEMBER 22ND 2004:

Live program at the studio of the Nigeria Television Authority, South-West Zone, Ibadan on the Youth Carnival among the youth in Oyo State. The program, "YOUTH OUR PRIDE," was attended by youth from different youth organizations and communities. Activities ranged from one-to-one group discussions, drama, talk show and music. This program attracted thousands of youth from across the state and beyond.

DECEMBER 3RD 2004:

Youth Crime Watch of Nigeria (Oyo State Chapter) won the "OUTSTANDING YOUTH ORGANIZATION AWARD FOR THE YEAR 2004," an award organized by the Matrix Club under the Youth Development Council in conjunction with the Oyo State House of Assembly, which was held at Bank Anthony Hall, University of Ibadan on Friday December 3rd 2004.

DECEMBER 1ST 2004:

YCWN was invited by the school authority of Ikolaba High School to launch a YCW program as part of the school extra-curricular activities. These students started the Youth Crime Watch program after they attended the "YOU ARE VALUABLE" event at the University of Ibadan on August 3rd, 2004.

DECEMBER 1ST 2004:


Youth Crime Watch collaborated with other youth organizations to celebrate December 1st World AIDS Day held at the Governor's office in Ibadan.

OCTOBER 6TH 2004:

After the "YOU ARE VALUABLE" events, the Police Commissioner, Oyo State, Mr. Moses Omo Anegbode invited the Youth Crime Watch of Nigeria (Oyo State Chapter) to the Force headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan where key issues about the YCW program, the youth and the future of the Nigeria were discussed.

AUGUST 3RD, 2004:

A day-long nationwide conference on Drug Abuse & HIV/AIDS with the theme "YOU ARE VALUABLE" was held at the Trechard Hall, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Over 500 young people from across the country attended and shared their views on drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, terrorism and violence. Dignitaries at the event were: Alhaja Ashiru representing Mrs. Olayinka Ladoja, the Wife of Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Vicky Olumudi, General Manager, Nigeria Television Authority, South-West Zone, Ibadan, Mr. Moses Omo Anegbode, Commissioner of Police represented by the Sango Divisional Police Officer, Bar. Ranti Ajeleti, YCW Legal Advisor, Mrs. V. Falope, Principal St. Teresa's College, Mr. Seun Onifade, Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (Oyo State Chapter). Guest Speakers were: Dr. A. Animashaun, National Open University of Nigeria, Mr. Oba Oladapo, PLAN Nigeria, Dr. Adesoji, Oyo State Ministry of Health, and Mr. Abu Silvanus, Univeristy of Jos, Nigeria.

MAY 6, 2004:

YCWN was invited by the school authority of Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan to launch a YCW site at the school. The students of this school started a YCW program after they attended one of our past events, "YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE," held in November 2003.

APRIL 30, 2004:

A day-long Crime prevention workshop was held at the school premises with the theme "PERSONALITY BUILDING AS MEANS OF CRIME PREVENTION" delivered by Mr. S. Adebayo, Deputy Director, Oyo State Youth Development Council, Mrs. M. O. Abu, Head Women Projects, Centre for Human Rights, Research & Development and Casey Gbenga Adeleye, the then President, YCWN (Oyo State Chapter).

APRIL 30, 2004: Inauguration of the Youth Crime Watch Site at the George & Duke International College.

Witnessing the occasion were Dr. Tunji Olurin, the Director & Proprietor of the School, the school Principal & Vice-Principal, Casey Gbenga Adeleye, Mrs. M. O. Abu, YCW Advisor and Mr. S. Adebayo, Deputy Director, Youth Development Council, Ministry of Youth & Sports, Oyo State.
