About Youth Crime Watch in Panama

Youth Crime Watch Panama or Jovenes contra el delito Panama is represented in the country by Roberto Boutet Díaz Foundation. It is a non-profit organization created in 1998 and committed to increasing the quality of life among the communities where it is active. News from Panama

Jóvenes contra el Delito – Panamá 2007

(Report sent by JCD Panama)

Youth Crime Watch Panama turned 4 years of serial activities in August 12 2007. it has become the program leader of prevention of the juvenile crime in Panama thanks to the indefatigable work of its members, teachers, policemen and collaborators.

The program is sponsored in Panama by the Embassy of United States through the Mr. Ambassador's diligences William Eaton and the dedicated sponsorship of the NAS office. Next we report you our achievements and activities from the year 2007.

Survival. Today, after 3 years of arduous work, the program of Young people Against the Crime of Panama from the Technical Professional Institute of Chorrera IPTCH was able to be self-sufficient due to the leadership of its members who they develop activities to finance their own activities. Also, they take a radial program every Saturday 100% directed by them call "Gangsters of the Good in Action".

Commitment. Schools like the ¨Beatriz Miranda of Cabal¨ (Chiriquí) and ¨Artes y Oficios¨ (Panama City) are example of commitment although they have a scarce support. They perform tasks and they present reports about actions designed by the students to sustain the program.

US Embassy support. In the Colon city, where the Embassy of United States through its program “Enfoque Colon” (Colon focus) (http://colon.usvpp.gov/index.html) has given funds to the Foundation to be invested in the program Youth Crime Watch Panama in this region. The Foundation has reached achievements in cultural, artistic and sport activities, jointly with our allies and schools. Today, more than 15 teachers meet periodically in the Police Department working jointly in the development of the program. Also, the students take here a program of weekly radio.

New schools. During the year 2007 we were able to join in the  ¨Abel Bravo¨ School (Colon), in the first time in the history, the current Ambassador from United States in Panama city, a secretary of Education, the Dean of the University of Panama and several delegates of the National Police of Panama and Colon as well as local authorities

Days of Radio. We have achieved in Colon city through the University of Panama that psychology students supported to our radio program and to Youth Crime Watch Panama in several areas. It is admirable the grade of commitment of the participant schools and the growth of their organization and understanding about the program. We stand out the great enthusiasm and commitment shown by the police department in Colon city as well as of the teachers.

Cinema with values. We conceptualized and developed in Colon city with the support of the Embassy of United States the project Cinema with Values® (www.fundacionrbd.org) that uses the cinema to promote a culture of values.

WEB with power. We developed several web search places in Internet with the programs that the Foundation follows (www.fundacionrbd.org). Soon we will have available new pages with the last technology, which we will maintain up-to-date for its search places. Our goal is that these places can serve as communication source as well as of upgrade tool for all our allies, such as the National Police department, the MEDUCA, the students and the National University.  Also these pages have the intention of being a promotion point from our programs to national and international level.

Soccer for the future. it was performed in Panama the 1st International Certificated program for Trainers of Soccer with Elements of Emotional Intelligence with the collaboration of the AC MILAN, a certified training course of more than 200 hours of duration jointly with the University of Panama. An Italian trainer and a tutor of Emotional intelligence gave instructions to more than 30 soccer trainers that today they serve as human capital for the realization of soccer activities in schools of communities in risk, once achieve the organization level and enough funds to include these activities in the program.  Profits from this event where directed to help the YCW Panama program.

Accountability. Youth Crime Watch Panama has included the transparency topics and the use of the logical mark for the planning of projects. Recently, the Roberto Boutet Diaz Foundation, who directs YCW Panama, and a private software company where able to present ADLUMEN, a Web tool to help in the project management for NGOs and non profit organizations. Specialists of Georgetown University in US and others form Latin America helped in this unique project.  The entire YCW Panama project for 2008 is now running on this application that helps our team to follow up and monitoring different activities.
