Monday, 11am – 5:00pm, Peery Egyptian Theatre
Take time to view two great documentaries
at one of the Sundance Film Festival venues – Peery’s Egyptian
Theatre attached to the Ogden Eccles Conference Center.
PAPERCLIPS
Whitwell Middle School in rural Tennessee is the setting for this documentary
about an extraordinary experiment in Holocaust education. Struggling to
grasp the concept of 6 million Holocaust victims, the students decide
to collect 6 million paper clips to better understand the enormity of
the calamity. The film details how the students met Holocaust survivors
from around the world and how the experience transformed them and their
community. (60 Minutes)
THE BOYS OF BARAKA
In an experimental program to reduce the rate of juvenile delinquency,
the city of Baltimore sent a group of 12-year-olds deemed "at risk" to
a boarding school in Kenya, affording the boys the rare opportunity
to turn their troubled lives around. Focusing on four of the youths, this
compelling documentary follows the students as they struggle to overcome
the obstacles of their past in their hopeful bid for a shot at a brighter
future.

- THE WATTIS DUMKE RAILROAD EXHIBIT depicts in miniature significant
regional features including the Lucin Cutoff across the Great
Salt Lake; Dale Creek Bridge, Wyoming; Corrine, Utah and of course, the famous
25th Street and the Odgen Union Station. As the Transcontinental
railroad came through Wyoming in the late 1860s, one of the largest trestles
on the west bound line was the Dale Creek Bridge. There were
such high winds in the area that passengers had to get off and walk across
and board again after the train passed over. The narrow rugged Weber
Canyon leaning to Ogden presented quite an obstacle to Union Pacific. Several
tunnels and bridges across the Weber River had to be constructed.
- MYRA POWELL GALLERY is now the home of the Union Station’s permanent art collection. The gallery is filled with fine examples of some of the best work of both locally and nationally recognized artists. The collection is located on the second floor.
